NEW RELEASE | Hard to Let Go by Laura Kaye | Giveaway

HARD TO LET GO (Hard Ink #4)
by Laura Kaye
Published: June 30th, 2015
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Military, Suspense
Purchase: Amazon | B&N | Kobo | iTunes
Beckett Murda hates to dwell on the past. But his investigation into the ambush that killed half his Special Forces team and ended his Army career gives him little choice. Just when his team learns how powerful their enemies are, hard-ass Beckett encounters his biggest complication yet—a seductive, feisty Katherine Rixey.

A tough, stubborn prosecutor, Kat visits her brothers’ Hard Ink Tattoo shop following a bad break-up—and finds herself staring down the barrel of a stranger’s gun. Beckett is hard-bodied and sexy as hell, but he’s also the most infuriating man ever. Worse, Kat’s brothers are at war with the criminals her office is investigating. When Kat joins the fight, she lands straight in Beckett’s sights . . . and in his arms. Not to mention their enemies’ crosshairs.

Now Beckett and Kat must set aside their differences to work together, because the only thing sweeter than justice is finding love and never letting go.

Taking a deep breath, Beckett knocked on the door.

No answer.

He turned the knob, and the door opened.

“Go away,” came a strained voice.

Beckett poked his head through the opening. Kat sat in a ball in the corner, her legs pulled up to her chest, her arms hugging herself tight.

“Aw, Jesus, Beckett. Really?” Her face was splotchy and her eyes watery, though he didn’t see any tears.

Ten-to-one she was going through some adrenaline letdown right now, too. Which no doubt made it all worse. That shit could fuck you up even when you were used to how it left you feeling drained and shaky, by how all the stress you’d suppressed during the height of the crisis boomeranged twice over after the fact.

He came into the room, closed the door, and turned the lock for good measure. And then he crossed to Kat, scooped his arms under her knees and behind her back and lifted her up against him.

She smacked his chest. “Put me down.”

“No.” He moved to the edge of the bed.

“I don’t need this right now, Beckett. Put me down.”

“Yes, you do,” he said, sitting on the edge of the mattress. He pulled her face in against his throat and smoothed her hair back from her cheek. She trembled against him, just the littlest bit, her skin hot to the touch. He pressed a kiss to her forehead and hugged her tighter. “You did good, kid.”

Every one of her muscles went tight. Her hand fisted in his shirt. And her breath caught as she buried her face against his neck and shoulder.

Then Kat burst out crying.

And it was like being torn apart and put back together, all at once. He hated her pain, but he adored that she wasn’t hiding herself from him, and that she was letting him be there for her.

He didn’t shush her, or try to talk her down, or encourage her to dry her eyes. To be sure, her tears were like daggers in his heart—they hurt like fucking hell. But the only way she was going to feel better was to let this shit out. Ironic realization for him—he did actually see that. But just because you could see what was good for others didn’t mean you had the first goddamned idea how to apply those principles in your own life. And that was a problem for another time anyway.

What mattered right now was Kat. What mattered … was Kat.

Feature & Follow Friday | Required Reading

Feature & Follow Friday is a weekly book blogger meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read to help bloggers gain new followers on their site.

This week's question:

Is there a book that you were required to read in school that you actually loved?

My answer:

I usually hate being forced to read something. Especially when it's a book that I really can't get into. But there were a few during school that I really enjoyed. Here they are:

**Okay, so it looks like there were more than just a few that I enjoyed reading. And I think I may have read The Call of the Wild on my own, I can't remember. I also really liked the Shakespeare unit and the Edgar Allen Poe unit we had.

I am also giving away copies of My Soul to Wake by Tara Oakes on my Facebook Page for review!
Everyone who comments on the pinned post will receive a copy of the book!

MY SOUL TO WAKE
by Tara Oakes
Published: May 25th, 2015
Genres: Young Adult, Paranormal, Romance
Witchcraft. Reincarnation. True love.

These are the things of legend. Unexplained, some even say impossible… but nonetheless prevalent in stories and tales from all cultures and in every land from the beginning of time. What if there’s something to it? What if there is an explanation behind the mysteries and bedtime stories? Something beyond words?

SALEM, MASSACHUSETTES 1692

She was taken from him in the cruelest way... condemned, sentenced and punished out of fear of the unknown. How is he supposed to live without her? How can he go on knowing that in this life, they will never be one again? There's only one thing to do... only one option that will bring them together again.

SALEM , MASSACHUSETTES TODAY

Leah is taken on a weekend excursion with her best girlfriends to let loose, relax and have a little fun. What harm is there in a little vacation? It's not like the legends, the haunted history of the place can scare them away. It's all harmless fun.

Or so she thought.

Something seems familiar about the town. The trees, the winds, the feel of everything. Her ever present nightmares have become more intense within the limits of the old historical setting. She's prepared to write off the whole trip as nothing more than a case of her mind running away with the sensationalized magic here. When she meets a handsome stranger who's eager to know her in a way no one else can, she begins to think there just may be something more to this place, something more to him.

Will has been waiting, biding his time, and praying that she'll come back. He's broken the natural order of things to possibly find her again, weaving their way through the years until they can be together again. He knows he may never find her, but he can't risk not trying. This place calls to her, just as it did to him. It will bring her back home. It will bring her back to him.

What's 300 years when it comes to true love? He's prepared to wait an eternity if he has to, just to see her, hold her, make her his and to help her remember what was stolen from them so long ago. He’ll stop at nothing to make her remember who she is, the power she possesses, and the love they swore to each other.

Cover Reveal | Gold Shimmer by P.T. Michelle | Giveaway

GOLD SHIMMER (Black Shadows #1 / In the Shadows #4)
by P.T. Michelle
Expected Publication: August 4th, 2015
Genres: New Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Special Pre-Order Price $2.99: iTunes
I never thought that my plan to crash a masked party to exact a bit of revenge would fall apart so easily. It was a foolproof plan. The absolute best scenario. Moon-and-stars-aligned worthy. No one would suspect I was anyone other than the wealthy, self-absorbed girl I pretended to be. The one who would wreak havoc that night.

Then again, I also didn’t plan on running into a wall of sharp wit and steely determination named Calder. The dominant, charismatic Navy SEAL might’ve called me by Celeste’s name, but he refused to let me hide my true self from him. His special brand of honest, seductive charm was impossible to resist. He was confident and demanding…and everything I wanted. But the deeper I fell, the higher the stakes rose while playing a role. So I held onto our intense connection for as long as I could, knowing that he would never know me as Cass.

When an unexpected turn of events gives me a second chance to see Calder again, of course the opportunity comes with strings attached. I had no idea how dangerously tangled and deeply knotted those strings would become, but for the one man who gave me the courage to live my life for me again, I’d do just about anything.

Even become someone else.

Reader Recommends | Annoying Heroines

Reader Recommends is a fun meme hosted by Ramblings on Readings where we recommend 3-5 books (or more!) based on certain given topics. This is a great way to see what other readers are enjoying in your favorite genres, or maybe find a new favorite series!

This Week's Topic: Annoying Heroines

We all love annoying heroines; don’t deny it. I personally can’t get enough of the whining, the refusing to talk to my personal awesome Scooby gang about my terrible, stupid ideas and therefore getting someone killed in the process. Getting saved by the new-to-town hunky British guy isn’t just an option, it’s the only way I’m getting out of this alive.

Who are the heroines that you warn your book buds to steer clear of?

These are books that I found to have heroine's that were weak and whiny and they got on my last nerve. The only reason I'd recommend these books to other readers is because the general story plot and supporting characters made up for the annoying heroine.

Radiance by Alyson Noel
Annoying Heroine: Riley Bloom

Riley wants to grow up and be an adult, but she proves time and time again that she's just not that mature at all. Sure she died at the age of 12 (I think), but still. If you want to be treated like an adult, act like one. She whines and complains about practically everything. And I really do mean everything.

Dead Rules by Randy Russell
Annoying Heroine: Jana Webster

This chick is really just kind of crazy and her obsession with her "boyfriend" Michael just got on my last nerve. There is this perfectly good guy (Mars) right next to her, but all she can focus on is killing her boyfriend so that they can be together. I really felt bad for both Michael and Mars. I wouldn't want to be involved with Jana at all. Not even as a friend.

Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James
Annoying Heroine: Anastasia Steele

Some people are probably going to hate me for this one... But there were times when Ana just really got on my nerves. And I really loathe that "Inner Goddess" line.

Next Week’s Topic: New Adult to Make You Cry

New Adult is all about tugging on the heartstrings. Many times the main character has gone through some horrible trauma, and the book is spent dealing with it so they can heal. What are some New Adult books that made you cry when you read them?
